MThings Quick Start
Before configuring hardware, distinguish channels, device identities, point addresses, raw encoding, presentation, and cached values. An internal host device is useful for testing application data without a field link; a simulated slave requires an external master to validate protocol access.
Create a working project
- Select Project > New, choose a project location, and save the project.
- Add a channel from the channel/device tree and select the required serial or Ethernet transport.
- Add a device under the channel and select its protocol and station parameters.
- Open the device data table and add or import data points.
- Start communication and observe the link icon, live values, and statistics.
Verify read and write operations
- Confirm that the device address, point address, data type, byte order, and polling settings match the field device.
- Verify a single read, then explicitly enable the required polling or protocol acquisition strategy; a connection alone does not start every configured point updating.
- For writable points, enter a value in the write column and confirm the result on the device.
- Read the header tooltip before double-clicking: supported actions include refreshing values, preparing commands, writing, sorting, reassigning IDs, and toggling selection. These actions are not interchangeable.
Save and deploy
Save after every verified configuration stage. Before copying a project to another computer, stop communication, close the project, and copy all project-related files together.
If communication fails
Check physical wiring and network reachability first, then compare protocol parameters. Use Tools > Packet Test, Tools > Link Statistics, and packet monitoring to identify whether requests are sent and whether valid responses return.
